JAKARTA, Indonesia – PT XL Axiata Tbk through XL Axiata Business Solutions is collaborating with SCOPI (Sustainable Coffee Platform of Indonesia), in implementing an Internet of Things (IoT) based solution “Smart Coffee Monitoring”. This solution is to improve coffee product quality and operational cost efficiency.

Feby Sallyanto, Chief Enterprise & SME Officer of XL Axiata said, “Based on data from the Coffee and Cocoa Research Centre, coffee consumption is increasing by 7% every year. To get a wider market and have a high quality value, efforts are needed to maintain the consistency of coffee quality. One thing we can do is to take advantage of IoT-based solutions such as this “XL Smart Coffee Monitoring.”

According to Feby, this IoT solution is not just to digitize the coffee product process, but can actually become a personal assistant for coffee farmers, especially in the fermentation and drying process. This device has, among others, notification and alert features that set the upper and lower limits for each variable and then provides a warning if environmental conditions exceed these limits so that the coffee beans are not over-processed or under-processed, especially if there are changes in climate and weather conditions. Users can also monitor these data anytime and anywhere through their mobile devices.

Another benefit of this product is that it can map and improve the best practices of the coffee production process where each region will be different from one another. In addition, in the context of research, this product can provide unique data on the coffee production process. Furthermore, the data can be used to conduct further research in various scientific fields in the coffee production process.

Feby added, Smart Coffee Monitoring can be used by coffee processors or producers on the level of MSMEs to companies on a large industrial scale. This solution can also be applied in coffee-producing areas, many of which are located far away in remote areas.

“Since the past year we have continued to develop Smart Coffee Monitoring products, which were originally single probe sensors, now with an update to multi-probe with upgraded firmware, our IoT devices are also designed in such a way that they are easy and safe for farmers to use with the Touch Screen. Display and Electrical Safety, so we are more optimistic that this solution will really help coffee farmers,” continued Feby.

Paramita Mentari Kesuma, Executive Director of SCOPI said, “XL Axiata is the first company to collaborate with SCOPI in the use of technology for coffee postharvest techniques, this is one of the main supporting capitals to increase information dissemination, knowledge & access opportunities to markets in the agricultural sector. One of them is to help Indonesian coffee farmers. Thank you XL Axiata, through the IoT system, we have realized steps to improve the welfare of coffee farmers.”

Based on this situation, XL Axiata Business Solution decided to cooperate with SCOPI as a non-profit organization that bridges farmers with market players in the coffee sector in introducing this IoT solution to coffee farmers under SCOPI. This collaboration is also a stage of the Go-to-Market process for Smart Coffee Monitoring solution by introducing the role of technology to all stakeholders in the coffee industry, especially SCOPI members (Exporters, Downstream Industries and also coffee farmers).

Through this collaboration, XL Axiata Business Solutions hopes to get information about what are the problems experienced by farmers in the field. This data and information can be used as a reference for compiling a product roadmap in the future.
